According to NASCAR Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon, a sequel to the hit 1990 film "Days of Thunder" is something star actor Tom Cruise wouldn't be opposed to.
On Friday, Gordon appeared on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, where he said that Cruise is interested in making a sequel to one of the most popular NASCAR films of all time.
"I've been getting asked this a lot, so I'm going to go ahead and tell you: yes, he wants to have 'Days of Thunder 2,'" Gordon said.

Gordon was with Cruise during the red carpet premiere of "Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning" earlier and the week, and the two have crossed paths plenty of times before. In December 2015, Cruise surprised Gordon at the NASCAR Awards Ceremony before Gordon made a speech following his final full-time season.
.@NASCAR is not commenting on Cruise’s remarks, but a person familiar with the matter said that the idea of making the sequel happen is indeed gaining traction. https://t.co/CxmZoUtgOx

It also makes sense that Gordon, who now serves as the vice chairman of Hendrick Motorsports, would potentially be involved in the project. During the production of "Days of Thunder," Hendrick Motorsports built the cars used during the filming of the movie.
"Top Gun's" sequel came out 36 years after the original 1986 film, so it wouldn't be surprising to see Cruise reprise the role of Cole Trickle over three-and-a-half decades removed from the 1990 release of "Days of Thunder."
