Joey Logano is a polarizing figure in NASCAR. The Team Penske driver has won three Cup titles, albeit some fans are not happy. The 35-year-old is often cited as an example to show the drawbacks in the Playoff system. Now, Logano has made it clear that he is fed up with such conversations.

Last year, Logano clinched the Cup Series title for a third time, having previously won the championship in 2018 and 2022. However, in 2024, Logano barely even made it to the Playoffs. The Team Penske driver finished the season in P15 and won a single race in Nashville.

This was enough to get him into the business end of the tournament where he emerged victorious. This has divided opinions within NASCAR. Some believe that it is unfair to crown a driver who failed to even fight for wins for the majority of the season.

Joey Logano admitted that he really felt ‘pissed off’ by such comments. The Ford driver confessed that this is always in the back of his head. He made it clear that if critics were so unhappy with the format, he can go on to win the championship even without the current Playoff system. He reckoned that this was the attitude he really needed to keep.

Yeah, it pi--es me off. Absolutely. Ticks me off all the time. But I’m also like fine, change it. We’ll go win it again. That’s got to be your attitude with it, right?

Joey Logano said on The Teardown podcast.

Moreover, Logano mentioned that his best title victory will come when NASCAR changes the format. He reckoned that if he manages to win the championship with a different system, it would be the biggest ‘I told you so’ moment of his career, which would shut up his haters for good. Joey Logano insisted that it would motivate him further.

That’s going to be the best one. I’m looking forward to that one. That would be the best one. The whole get out and I told you so moments does feel really, really good. That’s an extra motivator.

Joey Logano stated.

Joey Logano aims for fourth NASCAR title in 2025

Despite the off-track chatter, Joey Logano remains determined to bring results on-track. The Ford driver will be competing in the Playoffs yet again this year, albeit with a better regular season campaign compared to last year. Winning a fourth title will put Logano in the same league as NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon.

The Team Penske driver joked that matching Gordon in terms of the number of Cup titles would certainly poke his haters. Joey Logano admitted that a fourth championship would indeed be a remarkable achievement, putting him in an elite group of NASCAR greats. However, the 35-year-old made it clear that even if he had to retire with three titles, he would be content when he looked back at his career in NASCAR.

The hate towards Joey Logano is unfounded. The Team Penske driver has earned his titles through the official rules. It is not the driver’s fault that fans don’t like the Playoffs. Rather, Logano is the one driver who has managed to understand how to exploit this system. Winning in the Playoffs is not easy, and Joey Logano does deserve his championships.
