Joey Logano went to NASCAR hauler to talk to officials about Ross Chastain after Chicago controversy

Following the finish at Chicago, Joey Logano was furious with Ross Chastain. He even went to the NASCAR hauler to complain. In his media interviews, Logano called for a penalty against Chastain after he said the Trackhouse driver admitted he retaliated against the 22 on purpose.

The Chicago Street Race got testy as the laps counted down. Drivers were pushing others into each other, and a few drivers got the wrong message. Did Ross Chastain have to retaliate against Joey Logano? No. But in the heat of the moment, was it the worst thing ever? Eh.

On Hauler Talk this week, NASCAR’s podcast to talk all things officiating and rules each week, Mike Forde revealed that Logano took things a step further. He called out Chastain in the media, and then went to the official’s hauler to plead his case further.

“The other big dust-up in the Chicago Street Race was Ross Chastain and Joey Logano, who said that Chastain, I believe he said Chastain, told him it was on purpose, and I believe there was also reportedly a radio of Chastain saying that he had spun Logano,” Nate Ryan said. “And Joey Logano says that Ross Chastain should be fined for admitting culpability in that.”

“Obviously, we did hear from Logano both through the interviews, but he did stop in and talk with us about that situation on Sunday afternoon, evening, and I would be fairly surprised if we don’t have conversations with both those drivers,” Forde, managing director of racing communications, said.

Ryan, one of the other hosts on the podcast and a longtime NASCAR journalist, went further on that note. He asked Forde to clarify.

“Just to follow up, did you say, so Logano came to the NASCAR trailer? To the officials afterward?” Ryan said. Forde replied, “Yes.”

“Joey Logano specifically is actually a good question,” Forde replied when asked if this was a common occurrence. “So, as we’ve said, as Amanda has hammered a bunch of times, we prefer that to happen. You know, let’s, if you have a problem, if you have a critique, a criticism, whatever, our doors are open. And Logano probably more than most takes advantage of that opportunity.

“As far as, you know, driver skirmishes on the race track and them coming to us to say we should do something about it, I think that’s pretty rare. But as far as coming to talk to us about other things, that’s less rare. I think we wish it would happen more. Logano’s always very good. He’s one of the leaders in that driver group, and the driver advisory council, he’s on the board with Jeff Burton and a couple of other drivers. So, he takes that two-way conversation and communication pretty seriously.”

So, Logano kind of snitched on Chastain. Forde acknowledged that NASCAR was looking at that incident, but that was back on Tuesday. It does not appear officials are handing out any penalties from on-track actions at Chicago. Honestly, good call.
