Katherine Legge Teases Plans For Indy, NASCAR Double

Katherine Legge will be making her return to NASCAR this weekend with her entry at Watkins Glen, but she also intends to compete at the Indy 500 later this month. That raises an interesting question about the iconic Memorial Day Double.

Given that it involves 1,100 miles of driving in a day, it's as much a test of endurance as skill and only Tony Stewart has managed to complete all of the miles in a day.

When asked if it's something Legge would consider, the longtime driver said it would be "awesome" to get a chance to try it. However, she referred to it as more of a "one day" attempt, rather than something she's eager to attempt in 2026.

"I think it would be awesome," Legge said, via Speedway Digest. "I hope I get the opportunity one day down the road."

Double Duty

The Memorial Day Double, also known as Double Duty and the Indy-Charlotte Double, features a driver attempting both the Indy 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. It has only been attempted by five drivers since 1994, when the Coca-Cola 600 was moved to later in the day and eliminated overlap with the iconic Indy 500.

But even attempting the Double is something that very few of the best drivers in the world have even tried. And the results are almost always underwhelming.

For starters, no driver has ever managed to win either race on days where they attempt it.

Over the past few years Kyle Larson has tried his hand at the Double. He managed to complete all 200 laps in 2024, but the Coca-Cola 600 had to be suspended due to rain. Last year he managed to go 91 laps in the Indy 500 and 245 laps in the Coca-Cola 600.

Simply put, the Double isn't for everyone - even the best drivers in the world. It's more a test of personal ability than the ability to win.
