Kevin Harvick accuses Denny Hamlin of wrecking teammate Ty Gibbs on purpose: ‘There’s no hiding that’

Denny Hamlin said on Monday’s “Actions Detrimental” podcast that he did not intentionally wreck Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Ty Gibbs on Lap 111 of Sunday’s race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Kevin Harvick is calling you know what on Hamlin’s explanation of how that incident unfolded.

Harvick said it was clear to him that Hamlin turned Gibbs intentionally. He added he did not understand how it came to this in the first place.

“This is a tough one. When I look this scenario, obviously, the 11 as you can see him go up from the hash mark straight into the back of the 54, that was intentional, right? There’s no hiding that wasn’t intentional,” Harvick said on Tuesday’s Happy Hour podcast. “I think they raced hard like this, they raced hard like this with the roles reversed earlier in the race with the 54 trying to pass the 11. You could have wiped out all three of them right there, and I just don’t understand.”

Hamlin explained in length what happened as he battled Gibbs for 11th in Stage 2: “I was pretty much there into Turn 1, and then he moved down to the middle lane to cut the nose off. If you cut across someone’s nose, especially if they’re running really close to you, it will make their car kind of lift up and take off.

“I think he was just trying to cut across my nose to make me lose air, just to aero block me. I was so close to him, I’m like, ‘Hell no. You’re not going to do that.’ Tried to shove him up to the net lane to get my position. Unfortunately, it spun him out.”

You can guarantee there have already been discussions at JGR’s shop about how to handle this moving forward. Joe Gibbs said he wants the drivers to take care of it; Hamlin would prefer if JGR leadership stepped in and handled it. Harvick has concerns about how this could impact Hamlin’s chase to capture his first NASCAR Cup Series championship.

“Here’s the question I have: is that the moment that derails Denny Hamlin’s 2025 championship, because of the fact that decision now is a decision that you have to talk about next week, it’s a decision that can divide the shop, it’s a decision that shows a lot of people that you don’t really have a lot of respect [for others around you],” Harvick said. “When he made that decision, it could be the moment that derails Denny Hamlin’s championship chase for 2025.”
