Kyle Larson is considered to be one of the most exciting talents in the Cup Series. The HMS star has gained a massive fan following who believe that he’s the greatest driver in the world. Unfortunately, Larson has faced some troubles this year, with a string of underwhelming results. Now, NASCAR legend Kevin Harvick has traced back to the Indy 500 as the start of the 32-year-old’s struggles.
Larson had a decent start to the 2025 season and remains third in the Cup standings. However, he is going through a win drought with his last victory coming in Kansas. The HMS star even made another attempt at ‘Double Duty’ at the Indy 500 and the Coca Cola 600 this year. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned as the 32-year-old crashed out at Indianapolis, before he spun out from the lead during the Coke 600.
The following weeks have not been any better for the HMS star. Kyle Larson is forced to play catch-up with rivals who have gained momentum in the past few races, posing a challenge for the remainder of the season.
Kevin Harvick claimed that Larson has simply not been the same since his chaotic weekend on Memorial Day. This carried over to the All-Star Race, where once again the 32-year-old seemed to have faded against the competition. Harvick reckoned that this was the reality not just for the driver, but the entire Hendricks Motorsports crew. With even William Byron failing to bring in results in recent rounds.
Larson’s been off since the whole Indy stuff started to happen, you know. I really think that, at the All-Star race and that weekend forward, those guys haven’t been as sharp as they were at the beginning of the year.

Shane van Gisbergen has emerged as a force-to-be-reckoned-with in the Cup Series. The former V8 Supercars champion decided to make the switch to NASCAR full-time and has not looked back since. The Kiwi driver has even secured a spot in the Playoffs and rounded up the Xfinity and Cup races last week. While Kevin Harvick believes that Gisbergen will be the favorite to win the next race at Sonoma, Kyle Larson is not backing down at his home race.
The HMS star highlighted that his team has often been strong at Sonoma. Kyle Larson hoped that things will be in his favor again. However, he raised concerns over the potential warmer temperatures this time around as the race takes place in July. Larson hoped to pull off a good show this time around with his fans and family in attendence.
We have dominated there in the past—hopefully, we’ll be just as good… It will feel hotter in Sonoma with the race being in July. The pavement will be a little bit slicker. I love having friends and family at the track, especially the friends that don’t typically get to go to the track.

Certainly, Kyle Larson is in desperate need of a strong outing, with no better place than his home track. However, it is not so easy for a driver to gain back momentum after weeks of underwhelming results. Fans would hope that the local hero is able to get himself back on-track this weekend, and silence critics over his recent string of results.
