Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin’s new feud has been the talk of NASCAR town for the past week. The two drivers have not crossed paths in person but have had heated exchanges via the media. These interactions have caused many in the NASCAR world to give their opinion, and joining them is Kevin Harvick.
The story began with Hamlin making blunt comments on his “Actions Detrimental” podcast about Busch’s dire form, and the Richard Childress Racing driver was quick to hit back at him.
In an interview with Sean Hannity, Busch said, “We’ve had a couple minor ones (run-ins). He’s got his own podcast, and he’s been running his mouth lately, so he might get run into again. He’s been telling me that I’m washed up and I can’t drive anymore.”
Kevin Harvick commented on this feud on his “Happy Hour” podcast, siding with Kyle Busch. He said, “If I was Kyle, I would have taken them (Hamlin’s comments) how Kyle took them. I would have been pissed. I had to probably run him over on the racetrack at some point, like we did at Dover way back then.”
“I like both the guys now. I like Denny Hamlin, and I like Kyle Busch. But, you know, 2006, I probably would have smashed him,” the 2014 Cup champion added.
Harvick further pointed out how Denny Hamlin has been handling multiple roles alongside running a podcast. And that the podcast can, at times, get him into unwarranted trouble.
Kyle Busch has been having a tough run over the past two seasons. He last won a race in June 2023 at Gateway and ever since has been experiencing a slump in the next-gen era.
In his first year with Richard Childress Racing, Busch showed a promising start to the partnership. He won three races that season. Recently, while looking back on 2023, Busch opened up about how RCR exploited a loophole en route to his three wins.
The 40-year-old said, “In 2023, when I won those three races, after the third race that we won at Gateway, we got our hands smacked for some of the stuff that we were doing to the race car that NASCAR didn’t like and said, ‘Don’t bring that back.’ It wasn’t anything like against the rules. You always exploit the gray area, so we exploited a gray area, and we found something, and we had an advantage.”
Since then, Kyle Busch has been on a 102-race winless streak. He is 27th in the standings after nine races and might not make it to the playoffs for the third season in a row.
