It happened, Brexton Busch got the better of his dad, NASCAR champion Kyle Busch, in a race head-to-head. But, Brexton didn’t “earn it” how it wanted to. His dad had a mechanical issue in the race while they were battling each other for position.
Brexton Busch already has a Golden Driller to his name. His time dirt racing has allowed him to not only learn how to race, but also race against his future Hall of Fame father. Kyle Busch has taken to racing midget cars and sprint cars in the last few years because of Brexton.
While Brexton got to beat his dad at DuQuoin last night, it wasn’t the most fun way to beat him. I’m sure he’ll let him hear about it for at least a day, though.
“I beat my dad, but I didn’t earn it the way I wanted to! We were battling hard for 5th when he had a mechanical problem,” a post on Brexton’s social media page said. “Overall my Winged Outlaw debut went pretty good, 2nd in Hot Laps, 2nd in my Heat, and 6th in the A-Main!”

6th in the A-Main with a runner-up in the Heat? Not a bad debut at all. Brexton has been racing these micro sprint cars, Bandoleros, and Legends cars. In fact, he won a Bandolero natoinal championship this year.
It won’t be much longer until we see Kyle and Brexton Busch go up against each other in Tulsa for the Tulsa Shootout. Brexton claimed a Golden Driller a year ago and wants to add another to his collection. Rowdy is still learning how to compete at a high level in these cars.
The two are going to race each other in one division coming up at Tulsa. They will both race in the Winged A division. For Kyle, it’s a four-division week. He’s racing in the Winged Outlaw, Non-Wing Outlaw, and Stock Non-Wing divisions as well. Brexton will also compete in the Restricted Class A.
There is going to be racing and a lot of it very soon, folks. Before you know it, we’ll be talking about how close the Clash is and how Daytona is right around the corner. Tulsa, Chili Bowl Nationals, and then we’re practically there. The 24 Hours of Daytona won’t be too much longer, and then it will be time to get back to NASCAR. Once we get to the New Year, it’s all downhill from there.
