Social media star and NASCAR driver Cleetus McFarland made headlines Wednesday when it was announced that he would make his NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series debut at Rockingham Speedway on April 4 with Richard Childress Racing.
The news came as a surprise given that McFarland only has five ARCA Menards Series start under his belt and one Truck Series start at Daytona on Feb. 13 that lasted less than six laps.
Nonetheless, McFarland was approved to make his debut at the second highest level of NASCAR, which has become a controversial topic in the racing world this week. On Saturday at Phoenix Raceway, Kyle Busch offered his thoughts.
"I don't know how many races [McFarland had] run," Busch said, per Jeff Gluck of The Athletic. "Denny Hamlin ran 10,000 before he got here. I don't know if Cleetus has run 10 or not.
"There's definitely a need to having ample experience. My son's probably run more races than [McFarland] has, and he's 10 years old. I don't think that sits well with many of us."
.@KyleBusch says he would have liked to see Cleetus run more races before moving up.

While McFarland doesn't have much in the way of NASCAR experience, it's his superstardom that is a big draw for fans. McFarland's YouTube account has over 4.65 million subscribers, and regardless of how he performs at Rockingham, he'll be one of the biggest stories of the weekend.
