Kyle Larson Admits He's 'Praying' Before His Big Weekend

For the second year in a row, Kyle Larson will attempt to run the Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 in the same weekend.

Larson will start 21st in the 109th Running of the Indianapolis 500. Although qualifying day didn't exactly go according to plan, he didn't let that shake his confidence. In fact, he told reporters that he's just grateful to be in the field.

"We're in the race," Larson said, via Fox Sports. "After the first run, I was a little bit nervous I'd be one of the guys battling for the final spots. … It was slightly less comfortable than what I felt last year what I felt in qualifying. I felt pretty balanced. I was happy with that."

Larson finished 18th during a rain-delayed Indy 500 last year. By the time he arrived in Charlotte for the Coca-Cola 600, the race already started. Since that race was shortened by the rain, he never actually got in his Cup Series car.

Unfortunately for Larson, there's a chance Mother Nature will once again derail his chances of successfully completing the Indy-NASCAR double.

Speaking to the media Wednesday afternoon, Larson revealed that he's praying for good weather this weekend.

"I'm excited to get going and hoping the weather gods cooperate. It seems like it's gotten a bit worse, but we'll see," Larson told Bob Pockrass. "I'll probably keep looking at it. I'll just hope and pray."

Though he's a bit nervous about the weather, Larson has said many times that he feels good about this year's Indy 500.

"I feel like last year because it was my first time ever, I feel like I did a really good job of taking everything in and spending time signing every single autograph and doing all the rookie stuff I had to do," Larson said. "This year seems a little bit calmer. But it’s still much larger than any other event I get to run."

The Indy 500 will begin at 12:45 p.m. ET on Sunday.
