Kyle Larson is in the midst of a 39-race winless streak — the longest such drought for the defending NASCAR Cup Series champion since he joined Hendrick Motorsports in 2021.
But the 32-time Cup Series winner and two-time champ isn't too tore up about the drought, mainly because his No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports team still found a way to win the 2025 title and has been consistently quick through the first 15 races of 2026.
"I don't feel bummed or sad or anything of that nature that we haven't won in over a year now," Larson said Monday on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, "because we have been consistent. Always could be more consistent. I think that's an area I've strived to get better at."
Larson's consistency carried him through to the Championship 4 in 2025, where a late-race two-tire pit call ended up winning him the title over Denny Hamlin despite the No. 5 going winless over the season's final 24 races. Through the first 15 races of the 2026 campaign, Larson has five top five finishes, eight top 10s and has still led 573 laps, which ranks second in the Cup Series behind only Denny Hamlin. He's sixth in the series standings going into race No. 16 at Pocono on June 14.
"We've had less opportunities to win just because the Toyota cars are so fast," Larson said. "We're doing a good job with what we have. We're sixth in points, we're not too far out of fourth. Sure, I want to be winning... but I'm not going to stress myself out about it either. We're running inside the top 10. I don't really feel like we're inside a slump at the moment."
