The Cup Series race at Sonoma Raceway last weekend was full of action. Shane van Gisbergen took yet another victory in what is becoming an incredible campaign. However, there was one peculiar incident on pitroad involving Brad Keselowski. Now, the RFK Racing star has taken a clever dig at Ty Gibbs over the entire ordeal.
During the Sunday race, Ty Gibbs made his way for a pitstop on Lap 52. As the JGR driver entered his pit box, he ended up clipping a tire right off of Keselowski’s team’s tire carrier. This could’ve been a dangerous incident, considering the proximity of the incident. Luckily, the tire carrier was unharmed and Keselowski’s pit stop was completed as normal. The crew member did make his way to JGR for a conversation afterwards.
Brad Keselowski took to X to take a feisty jibe at Ty Gibbs. The RFK Racing co-owner posted a link from Amazon of a set of spike stud strip. Keselowski joked that the e-commerce site has everything a pit crew could ask for, hinting that his team might need these to avoid another such incident in the future. While the 41-year-old did not explicitly name Ty Gibbs, it was clear who he aimed it at. Moreover, he further joked that using such a spike strip would actually be legal. Though, NASCAR might have a different opinion.
Amazon really does have everything a pit crew could need. Legal too!

The incident sparked immense controversy in the field on Sunday. Ty Gibbs was quick to point out that he had no intentions of doing anything like that on purpose. However, the tire carrier of the No. 6 car was not happy. The crew member did not hesitate to confront JGR, something that NASCAR will be taking a look at.
NASCAR reporter Jordan Bianchi revealed that the sport was not going to review Ty Gibbs for the incident. The officials believed that his driving was not wrong. On the other hand, NASCAR was indeed going to review the face-off between the two garages on pit road. Though, Bianchi clarified that the officials had indeed taken a look at the entire incident and decided not to take action on Gibbs.
NASCAR is not going to review what Ty Gibbs did at all. That is closed. They feel he did not do anything wrong. However, they are going to review the altercation on pit road between the tire carrier from the 6 team and the altercation between the 54 team. That is the only thing that is open from this. They looked at it already [Gibbs incident]. They did look at it in the moment and they’re good. So, it’s not that they’re burying their head in the sand. They did look at it and they absolved him and that’s that.
Jordan Bianchi said on The Teardown podcast
Such an incident should not happen in the first place. Even though, NASCAR has cleared Ty Gibbs, he should’ve been more careful while making his way to the pit box. Similarly, the crew member should’ve tried to stay clear of the car. Fans would hope that they are not forced to witness such a situation in the future.
