Keep your eyes on pit road after this race, folks. Matt Crafton is not going to be too happy with Bayley Currey after this. Crafton got spun by Currey late in the NASCAR Truck Series race at the Charlotte Roval.
The Niece Motorsports trucks were getting into one another. Matt Mills, Bayley Currey, and Josh Bilicki were almost wrecking each other on every lap for a few laps in a row.
Ultimatley, Matt Crafton paid the price. He was spun out and lost his mind on the radio afterward.
“Make sure you tell [TJ Bell] … F**K YOU YOU STUPID MOTHERF**KER,” Crafton said on the radio, via Brett Winningham of Speedway Digest. Bell is a spotter for Niece Motorsports.
This might boil over into after the race. Currey better keep his eyes on the 88 after the finish.
UPDATE: Following the finish of the NASCAR Playoff race at the Roval, Matt Crafton did confront Bayley Currey. However, there were no punches thrown as the two drivers spoke with each other. Crafton did most of the talking it appeared and the two went their separate ways without much incident.
Crafton has gotten into fights before. He infamously, and allegedly, jumped out from behind tires at Talladega a couple of years ago and punched Nick Sanchez. That might have been playing in the minds of the Niece Motorsports team after the spin happened. Luckily, cooler heads prevailed and there was no physical altercation.
There are two schools of thought when it comes to this Matt Crafton situation and how he dealt with it after the race. He is retiring at the end of 2025. So, some may say, good on Matt. He is showing maturity and veteran leadership by not trying to fight a younger driver.
Then there is the other side of the coin – eff it, you are already retiring, what are they gonna do, fire you? Now, it’s best not to get a suspension or a fine in the last few weeks of your career. But I think part of Crafton wanted to do it. Again, the more mature side of the 88 driver prevailed today.
NASCAR fans watching might have wanted it, but it’s the Roval. People get spun. Crafton was, by far, not the only driver who was wronged in this race today. It started out with Grant Enfinger wrecking both of the leaders. Then it ended with one of those leaders, Corey Heim, coming back to win in overtime with a beat-up truck.
So, Matt Crafton kept his hands to himself. Let’s see if going back to Talladega ignites that fire in him again. The Truck Series without Crafton? What kind of Truck Series is that?
