NASCAR analyst breaks down how William Byron’s form is motivating Chase Elliott get back to 'clicking'

Chase Elliott started the Next-Gen debut year in impressive form, as he went on to win the 2022 regular season championship before missing out on the title in the playoff. His hopes of continuing the dominance over his teammate in 2023 was short-lived, after he had a snow-boarding accident that sidelined him form six weeks. Since then, the No:9 Chevy team has been struggling to find momentum.

While Chase Elliott has been struggling his teammate Willaim Byron and Kyle Larson has been dominating the scene. The duo combined won 10 races last season, with Byron leading the way with six wins. They have extended the form to 2024 with four wins from first eight races (Byron 3 wins) and seems to be in line with another potential championship-4 entry.

According to Fox Sports’ Josh Sims, the first African American pit-reporter in NASCAR, Elliott is taking the dominating of his teammate personally. He believes this will be the inspiration the 2020 NASCAR Cup champion requires to get over his poor form and get back to race winning form. The P3 finish at Martinsville last week might be sign.

Chase has really taken it to heart and worked harder…when you see your teammates Kyle Larson and William Byron going out there dominating, you take that type of stuff personally and it looks like to that point Chase is taking it personal and he’s starting to get back to the point where he’s obviously clicking.

Chase Elliott is confident he will end his winless drought soon

The former champion believes he has started having a positive momentum since the end of the 2023 season and has carried it to the 2024 season. He reckons this direction can bring them success and soon the win he has been desperate for.

I feel like throughout a lot of the season this year we’ve just been going in a very positive direction. If we keep producing that, we’ll get our turn one day.

Going into this weekend’s race at Texas, though it isn’t Elliott’s favourite track due to the re-configuration, the HMS team can hope for positive results. A consecutive top-5 finish will give him all the momentum he needs to score the important win that would reward him with a spot in the playoffs.
