NASCAR insider sends warning to 23XI, Tyler Reddick if charters are lost

Right now, it remains unclear if Tyler Reddick and his 23XI Racing teammates are going to have chartered cars to race this season. Should 23XI and Front Row Motorsports lose their charters in this NASCAR lawsuit, then there could be serious implications.

Last year, when 23XI and FRM originally argued for the preliminary injunctions to allow them to race as chartered teams, they made a point about drivers. In most of the contracts regarding Tyler Reddick, Bubba Wallace, Riley Herbst, Noah Gragson, Todd Gilliland, and Zane Smith – a charter is a requirement.

So, if 23XI doesn’t have a charter for Reddick, what happens? He may be a free agent and that is dangerous for 23XI who sees him as their top driver.

Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports talked about the situation on Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour. He rang the alarm bells for 23XI Racing and Tyler Reddick.

“Maybe the biggest impact would be, theoretically, without a charter, drivers can probably become free agents,” Pockrass explained. “Because their contracts typically require a chartered car. Now, do you expect any of them to leave? No. But Tyler Reddick, pretty darn good driver, and you would think that if there is a chance that he is available, you know, a team potentially could make an offer for him. You know, does that just become another distraction for Denny and their team to go through that? Possibly. But it’s still something that’s going to have to be considered as things go forward.”

Could Tyler Reddick or any of the other drivers be on the move? Keep an eye out, because this is the one thing that could take this from a boring Silly Season to one of the most interesting.

Could Tyler Reddick leave 23XI Racing?

This NASCAR lawsuit puts a lot of things up in the air. There are many possible outcomes for both sides. 23XI Racing and Front Row were concerned to lose drivers, sponsors, and “goodwill” in the industry. Barring another injunction, the teams have effectively lost their charter status this week.

Going to Dover Motor Speedway, there will be six open cars on the track. While there is no concern that there will be any chance of missing a race, the possbility is theoretically there. Only the Chicago Street Race and Daytona 500 have sent teams home during qualifying this season. There is unlikely to be another race with 41+ cars on the entry list.

Tyler Reddick made a big move when he came to 23XI Racing. He signed a deal for 2024 back in the 2022 season to leave RCR and go race in the 45 car. However, the news came out, and Richard Childress parted ways with Reddick a year early, allowing him to go to 23XI. That opened the door for Kyle Busch to take over the 8 car. Could Reddick make another big, if not controversial, free agency move?
