Two NASCAR insiders weighed in on Austin Dillon calling Carson Hocevar the “biggest dumbass” in the sport. On the Door Bumper Clear podcast, Tommy Baldwin and Freddie Kraft shared their thoughts on Hocevar’s wreck at the Chicago Street Race.
“He doesn’t have anybody tell him,” Baldwin said about Carson Hocevar’s racing style. “Everybody’s like, ‘Oh, you’re doing good. Don’t listen to anybody.'”
Baldwin later added, “77 guy just don’t know any better. He just doesn’t process it, man. I wish he had somebody… Maybe he does. Maybe he just doesn’t listen.”
Kraft doesn’t believe Hocevar intentionally tried to wreck at the Chicago Street Race. “I get it like with Austin’s upset because it ruined his day too. But, I mean obviously Carson didn’t drive his stuff through the wall on purpose,” Kraft said. When talking about Dillon, Kraft said, “It’s probably in the moment because his car’s wrecked. The problem was it’s a tough spot. …The wreck happened directly behind a f***ing tree. You couldn’t see anything. …Austin was probably going to be okay, but then once everybody piled into him, that was the end of that.”
The wreck happened during Lap 3 of the Chicago race. Hocevar, Dillon and multiple drivers were collected in the wreck. That led to Dillon saying on his radio, “Carson Hocevar is the biggest dumbass in the entire sport. Everybody knows it, buddy. He wiped out into 10 and just wiped out half the field.”
Dillon’s day was done after the wreck. “Disappointing day in the No. 3 Breztri Chevrolet at the Chicago Street Race,” Dillon said, per NASCAR.com. “Crew chief Richard Boswell and everyone on the RCR team brought a really fast Chevrolet to the streets of Chicago. We qualified 10th and thought we would be a contender today in the race. A car spun in front of us on the first lap, and it ended our day before we could even get it started. It’s a shame, and I’m just at a loss for words at this point. We’ll just keep bringing cars like this and hope our luck turns around for us at some point.”
