It's been two years since NASCAR's first ever Cup Series street race at the Grant Park 165 in downtown Chicago — which led to subsequent events last season and in 2025.
And now according to reports, the sport is in discussions to broaden its reach to the Big Apple.
Per Adam Stern of the Sports Business Journal, NASCAR has been in discussions with New York City about a potential street race in the future. And has also had additional conversations with Denver, San Diego and Seattle.
NASCAR's race in Chicago has mostly been a hit and its current contract with the city's Park District is for three years. Although NBC Sports reports that the company may look to extend that deal into 2026 and '27 with how well it's been received.
"For NASCAR to request a date for 2026, it would have to do so within 90 days after the 2025 event," the outlet noted last summer. "The contract states that dates after 2025 'shall be held on dates mutually agreeable to NASCAR and the [Chicago Park] District.'"
This isn't the first time NASCAR has looked into hosting an event in New York City either. The sport also was in talks with NYC in 2023 and the city even looked into building a track in Staten Island back in the mid-2000s before the idea was ultimately scrapped.
NASCAR has continued to have an eye on expansion into untapped markets like the big cities and even abroad. So we'll see if it ultimately comes to fruition this time.
