NASCAR truck driver threatens to quit after Confederate flag ban

NASCAR finally decided to ban confederate flags at races this week and driver Ray Ciccarelli announced that he would be quitting the racing league as a result.

"Well its been a fun ride and dream come true but if this is the direction Nascar is headed we will not participate after 2020 season is over," Ciccarelli posted on his Facebook. "i don't believe in kneeling during Anthem nor taken ppl right to fly what ever flag they love. I could care less about the Confederate Flag but there are ppl that do and it doesn't make them a racist all you are doing is f---ing one group to cater to another and i ain't spend the money we are to participate in any political BS!! So everything is for SALE!!"

In the wake of nationwide protests sparked by the death of George Floyd, driver Bubba Wallace called for NASCAR to ban confederate flags from races.

"My next step would be to get rid of all Confederate flags," Wallace said on "CNN Tonight With Don Lemon." "No one should feel uncomfortable when they come to a NASCAR race. So it starts with Confederate flags. Get them out of here."

The post by Ciccarelli has since been deleted so perhaps he has had a change of heart. But if he does choose to leave, NASCAR shouldn't have too much trouble surviving without him. Ciccarelli, who competes in the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series, has only had one top-10 finish in the last three years.
