For over three decades, NASCAR hosted it's All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway — a 25 minute drive from the sport's Hall of Fame. And while this year's event will still call North Carolina home, Brad Keselowski thinks its time to take things back to the Queen City.
Speaking to reporters after winning this weekend's pole, the 41-year-old Cup Series driver claimed it had less to do with North Wilkesboro itself and more to do with the track at Charlotte. Adding, that he thinks it's time for NASCAR to get back to its roots.
"I think this needs to be a points racetrack," Keselowski said of North Wilkesboro Speedway. "I'd like to see the All-Star Race most likely return to Charlotte. That's my personal opinion. I think the Charlotte racetrack, particularly since it only has one race on the oval, I think that's a miss for our sport."
"It's a great racetrack and puts on some of the best racing, so it would make sense to me if we were to revert back to that and make this a season race, and probably get rid of a race like the Roval or something like that."
The NASCAR 75 member went on to say that he feels attendance is better at oval races rather than events like the Bank of America ROVAL 400.
"I look at the stands and there are more fans that come to the oval race and better ratings too, than come to the Roval races. I thought that's what we judge the sport by," Keselowski noted. "… I'm very strong about the Roval has got to go."
Clearly the former Cup Series champion isn't holding back on how he truly feels. But until something changes, he and his fellow drivers will be firing up their engines at the Roval on Oct. 5.
