The Kiwi is here to stay! Shane van Gisbergen and Trackhouse Racing have come to an agreement on a multi-year extension. The road course ringer has taken three checkered flags alone this season. He isn’t leaving NASCAR anytime soon.

When Justin Marks brought Shane van Gisbergen over from Supercars, it was a gamble. The two sides were playing it all by ear. If things hadn’t worked out the way that they have the last two seasons so far, this extension might not have happened at all.

This season, SVG has confirmed that Marks and Trackhouse made the right call. He won at Mexico City, Chicago, and Sonoma – all rather handily. SVG has more than earned himself an extension.

With the current playoff rules, Shane van Gisbergen is almost guaranteed a spot in the postseason as long as his road course talents are there. He is a driver who has many years behind him in racing, but doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon.

The difference between making the playoffs and not making it can mean millions to a team. That’s why it is so important for drivers to make it into the 16-team field. If not, you’re leaving money on the table and making it easier for your team to make a financial decision regarding drivers.

Trackhouse Racing will move on from Daniel Suárez at the end of this season. In his place, they will be placing Connor Zilisch. That news is not official, but it is the most open secret in the Cup Series right now as far as Silly Season goes for 2026.

Shane van Gisbergen signs extension with Trackhouse

Right now, Shane van Gisbergen is 35. He, ideally, has at least five more years of his prime racing days left. Perhaps even longer. While he is still learning on the ovals, fans need to remember that SVG is an elite racecar driver. There is no reason that his skill has to decline at 40. Look at what Denny Hamlin is able to do at the age of 44.

I’m not sure how long SVG stays in NASCAR. Likely as long as he is winning road course races and earning money for his team. He accomplished pretty much all he could in Supercars. Three championships, 80 wins, three Bathurst 1000 victories, and so much more.

So, the focus is on NASCAR. It will likely be the last series he races in full-time. He has brought Red Bull back to the sport, along with Connor Zilisch, and changed the way we look at the playoffs and road course racing.
