Tony Stewart Announces Decision On The 2025 Racing Season

Tony Stewart may be getting out of the NASCAR business after the end of Stewart-Haas Racing, but he isn't finished with racing as a whole.

The three-time Cup Series champion will be taking his talents to NHRA drag racing, where he'll fill in for his wife Leah Pruett. Stewart drove for Pruett last season as well, citing her desire to be a mother instead of continuing to further her racing career.

“I’m going to be back in the Top Fuel car again next year,” Stewart told Speed Sport.

“Leah has decided she wants to be a mom this first year. I’ll be honest, she is literally just over two weeks from having Dominic and I am pretty confident in about two to three weeks, she’ll be ready to get back in a Top Fuel car."

Pruett had the couple's first child Dominic earlier this month, and Stewart says his wife has adjusted well after her pregnancy.

“She absolutely looks amazing. Looking at her, you wouldn’t even tell she just delivered a little boy to us. So, it’s just amazing how strong and tough my wife is and what she does. But she does wanna be a mom next year.”

After driving in his wife's place this season, Stewart won the Rookie of the Year award in the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series.

“It’s a big honor to win this award this season,” said the driver-turner-team owner.

“There are some great drivers in the NHRA. And it’s one of the most diverse forms of motorsports I’ve been a part of. I’ve had a really good time working with the series this season to promote and continue to grow the sport.”

Stewart-Haas Racing ended operations after more than two decades in NASCAR, competing in the Cup, Xfinity, Truck and ARCA Menards series. Stewart won both of SHR's Cup Series titles, and Cole Custer won the team's lone Xfinity Series title in 2023.

We'll see what Stewart can do during another NHRA season next year, as he fills in for his wife for a second consecutive year.
