For the first time in his young Cup Series career, Ty Gibbs is a pole winner! He will lead the Coca-Cola 600 to green on Sunday. In what proved to be an absolutely monster lap, Gibbs checks a first off of his NASCAR list.

This is a big step for the Joe Gibbs Racing driver. He has been so close but come up short so many times before. Now, he finally has this one off his back. It was a huge lap that he had to put down in order to take the pole from William Byron.

A 29.3-second lap at Charlotte is moving for these Next Gen cars. A great lap and a well-deserved pole. Will that first career win come at one of the biggest moments as well?

Ty Gibbs has had a really solid season in his sophomore campaign. He has picked up a good amount of points, avoided having a DNF so far this year, and has four top-5 finishes. In addition to those great finishes, he has three top-10s.

The 54 team is solid. They are good on pit road, they bring fast cars each week – Gibbs just has to put it on the track and do the dang thing now. In a 600-mile race, it doesn’t really matter who starts on the pole, but it doesn’t hurt a driver’s confidence starting out front.

Ty Gibbs checks off one career first

The second year in any series can be difficult. You want to outperform your rookie season but at times that isn’t always possible. Right now, Gibbs is doing a great job of showing how he has improved in the Cup Series.

Getting that first career pole award is a big first step. It felt like he would already have one by now with how well he does qualify on a weekly basis. Then again, there are times when things happen for a reason. All of those failures were so he could have his first career pole for the Coca-Cola 600. That’s pretty neat.

At the very least, Gibbs will have a great pit box to work with. So those critical pit stops won’t throw him off too bad, even if he has a rough stop. Execution is still key and pit road is part of that equation.

Ty Gibbs finally has that first career pole. His attention now turns to how he can get his first career win and do it on one of NASCAR’s biggest stages. An action-packed day is set for Sunday, Indy 500, Coke 600 – it’s going to be great!
