The relationship between Joe Gibbs Racing owner Joe Gibbs and driver Ty Gibbs isn't typical of that between a NASCAR team owner and their driver.
Ty Gibbs is the grandson of Joe Gibbs, the Super Bowl-winning head coach who started his NASCAR organization in the early 1990s and has had immense success. Ty Gibbs, now 23, grew up in and around racing.
That's what made Ty Gibbs' first career Cup Series win at Bristol Motor Speedway all the more special for his grandfather, who just so happens to be his car owner as well.
"This is one of my best experiences," Joe Gibbs told Fox Sports as Ty Gibbs celebrated on the frontstretch behind him.
Joe Gibbs then referenced his son and Ty Gibbs' father, Coy, who passed away in November 2022, just hours after Ty Gibbs won the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series championship driving for JGR.
"I think about Coy; he brought Ty up the entire time," Joe Gibbs said. "I know he's probably watching. "
Joe Gibbs' grandson then crashed his interview and gave him a hug.
"This is the man right here," Ty Gibbs said. "I've never seen someone work so hard in my life. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for him."
"It's just a huge deal for all of us," Joe Gibbs said.
Suffice to say, Sunday will never be forgotten in the halls of Joe Gibbs Racing.
