It's not entirely uncommon for NASCAR drivers to race while injured, but Ty Gibbs did so in 2025 without telling a soul.
Gibbs revealed to the Performance Racing Network that he competed in the second half of the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season with a broken heel.
"I broke my heel mid-year last year," Gibbs said. "No one knew about that."
Gibbs' 2025 season was step back from his 2024 campaign. He missed the Cup Series playoffs in 2025 and saw his average finish dip to 17.9 from 17.4 in 2024.

"No one knew about that."
Here's what he had to say about it ⬇️ pic.twitter.com/bu9pCJB0Bw
"[It] sucked, don't ever break your heel," Gibbs said.
The 23-year-old driver said he broke his heel while "being an idiot."
"Just suck it up," Gibbs said when asked how he hid the injury. "You could see it if you were paying attention. It is what it is. It sucked. You just got to power through it."
While Gibbs did an extraordinary job keeping his injury quiet, he's far from the first driver to race injured. Brad Keselowski broke his femur in December and will compete in the first half of the 2026 season while still recovering. He walked through the garage area at Daytona International Speedway with a cane on Wednesday.
