The NASCAR Cup Series raced at Circuit of the Americas a little over a month ago with Christopher Bell earning his second consecutive win in the 2025 campaign. He won the week before at Atlanta and went onto win the week after at Phoenix.
There were no notable incidents on pit road for Bell or any other team.
On Thursday, a video shared by @SpeedPhenom went viral on social media, starting on Instagram, that showed a terrifying crash on pit road at the 3.41-mile track outside of Austin where a sports car went out of control, ran over multiple tables and chairs set up for hospitality, narrowly missed hitting a nearby spectator, before smashing into the side of the building.
That spectator was Colton Watson, who commented on Instagram about what he witnessed.
“That’s me in the jeans and black shirt almost at the front,” Watson wrote. “This was INSANE but the driver was okay after a hospital stay!!!!”
Reached via Instagram, Watson provided further details on what happened. He indicated that the car was part of a group called the Edge Addicts that take their sports cars out to the world-class track and run laps.
Watson said the incident occurred in March 2023 and was a result of the driver suffering a stroke and his foot getting stuck on the throttle. He said the man was taken to a local hospital, where he stayed for a couple of days but was OK.
The sports car group has five additional events scheduled at the track in 2025.
