Watch: Dale Earnhardt Jr. brands Kyle Larson’s upcoming Indy 500 debut as 'a big deal'
Reese Strickland-USA TODAY Sports

Hendrick Motorsports’ Kyle Larson is set to make his Indy 500 debut this month. He is set to drive for Arrow McLaren in a Honda powered car sponsored by HendrickCars.com. Larson would be the first driver since Kurt Busch in 2016 to pull off the historical double duty as he also has to race in the Coke 600 after the Brickyard race.

The entire NASCAR nation is looking forward to the event including Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. who has always find it as a big deal to see stock car racers tackle Indy. Kyle Larson has given fans hopes with his impressive performance in test runs, and former Indy 500 winners like Marcus Ericson expects him to be a contender for win.

While talking about the coming race via Speed Street podcast, Dale Jr. admitted that it’s a really important and cool to see a NASCAR racer back in the Indy 500 grid. He also admitted that it’s more interesting for the NASCAR community to watch the race at Brickyard, when one of their own is racing there.

Anytime that we have one of the NASCAR guys going to compete, that's a big deal. I mean, I can't describe how important and cool and great that is for motorsports in general…. And anytime any of our drivers would come over, man, it was even better.  We were even more interested in how that might play out and how successful they might be. Dale Earnhardt Jr. said via Speed Street Podcast.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. reveals how Indy 500 was a anxiety reliver for NASCAR driver

The Indy 500 takes place in the morning of the Coke 600; hence NASCAR drivers often watch the race sitting at their motorhomes. Junior pointed our that this was a stress reliever for the racers as they were getting ready for a 600 miles race later that day.

I remember so many years sitting in the hall or before the Coke 600, watching y'all's race, the Indy 500, play out.  And it was like this happy, welcome distraction from the anxiety the traditional anxiety of a race day morning, particularly the 600. You're sitting around all day long, waiting on 600 miles and wanting to do a good job in front of your hometown. Dale Earnhardt Jr. said.

Junior like many race fans seems excited about the prospect of seeing Larson win the Indy 500 and making history. If the 2021 Cup champion is able to achieve this, then he would create a legacy that probably would remain un-touched for a long period of time.
