Watch: Kyle Larson rattles the cage of Chris Buescher to win Kansas Cup race with 0.001 second margin

The NASCAR Cup Series race at Kansas witnessed history as Hendrick Motorsports’ Kyle Larson secured his second win of the 2024 season in an impressive fashion. He beat Chris Buescher of RFK Racing in an epic final lap battle with the lead of 0.001 seconds. This is smallest margin for win in the history of the sport.

Kyle Larson started the race at P4 and throughout the event maintained his spot among the front runners. After surviving 267 laps, 26 lead changes and seven cautions, the No:5 Chevy Camero ZL1 driver found himself in a final lap battle with the No:17 Ford Mustang Dark Horse driven by Chris Buescher, who was on the lead.

The duo was closely followed by the Noi:9 HMS Chevy of Chase Elliott and the No:19 Toyota Camry of Martin Truex Jr. After failing in a multiple attempt to take the lead, owning to the Ford drivers’ strong defense hence coming into the final turn of the race, Larson banged the door of the No:17 Ford hard to make him lose the momentum.

This gave Larson enough time to edge pass Buescher on the finish line. The finish was so close, Buescher’s crew started celebrating thinking they have won, but after NASCAR reviewed the footage, Larson was announced as the winner. RFK protested the results claiming the finish line was un-even, but NASCAR quickly ended confusion as they had used a finish line camera to determine the winner.

Kyle Larson admitted the race was wild and fun

While talking about the impressive win, Kyle Larson pointed out that it was a fun and entertaining race. He pointed out that all the stages, mostly the final stages with the crashes and cautions were really wild for him.

It was crazy, I mean that race from start to finish was amazing. That first stage was incredible, the second stage in the end was fun, and that last stage with the wrecks and cautions and then fuel strategy and tire. All that was wild. Kyle Larson said.

With yet another loss Ford has found themselves in a embarrassing situation. They have been part of 30 combined races in all three tiers of NASCAR in 2024, and has failed to win a single one. It’s also the third closest finish they have lost in the Cup this year.
