Ty Gibbs will not end the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season on a high note.
After getting loose on the exit of Turn 4 on the second lap of Sunday's race, Gibbs' No. 54 broke hard to the right as he raced through the dogleg, sending the car hard into the outside wall.
The crash knocked Gibbs out of the race, relegating him to a last-place finish in the 36th and final race of the season.
Here's another look at what ended @TyGibbs' day on Lap 2.

Not the way the No. 54 team wanted to end their 2024 season. Thankfully, Ty looks to be okay after that heavy impact.#NASCAR pic.twitter.com/MjhPZKQEUg
The wreck closes out a second half of the season that has turned sour for Gibbs. He was a top-10 driver for much of the first half of the year, but a summer slump left the No. 54 team limping into the playoffs.
At the Bristol Night Race on Sept. 21, a speeding penalty was too much for Gibbs to overcome, and he was eliminated in his first Cup Series playoff appearance.
A litany of mechanical failures has plagued Gibbs throughout the 2024 season, including engine failures. It appears his early exit in Sunday's race was caused by a mechanical issue as well, which could've come about after contact on a wild first lap.
Gibbs will finish 40th in Sunday's race. He will return to Joe Gibbs Racing for his third Cup Series season in 2025, driving the No. 54 Toyota Camry.
