The power forward position has undergone a remarkable evolution in the modern NBA, transforming from a role focused primarily on physicality and post-play to one demanding all-around versatility. In today’s game, power forwards are asked to do it all—stretch the floor, guard multiple positions, create scoring opportunities, and dominate the glass.

The 2024-25 season has showcased just how diverse and talented the league’s power forwards have become, with a mix of established superstars and rising stars making their mark. With teams increasingly building around these versatile players, it’s time to rank the 10 best power forwards based on what we’ve seen so far this season following our article about the best point guards, elite shooting guards, and dominant small forwards

1. Giannis Antetokounmpo

Statistics In 2024-25: 32.5 PPG, 11.6 RPG, 6.2 APG, 0.5 SPG, 1.3 BPG, 3.3 TOV, 61.1% FG, 20.0% 3-PT FG, 61.2% FT

Win-Loss Record: 12-11

Giannis Antetokounmpo remains one of the most dominant two-way forces in the NBA despite the Bucks' early struggles this season. His ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor is unparalleled and there isn't anyone better in that sense right now.

Averaging nearly 33 points per game, Giannis continues to be the centerpiece of the Milwaukee Bucks' offense as the NBA's leading scorer. On defense, his length and athleticism make him a nightmare for opposing teams, whether he's swatting shots at the rim or disrupting passing lanes.

This season, Giannis has been instrumental in keeping the Bucks afloat, leading them back to a playoff position despite nearly all of his teammates letting him down. We expect the presence of Damian Lillard to alleviate some of the offensive burden, allowing Giannis to focus even more on anchoring Milwaukee’s defense as the season continues.

2. Kevin Durant

Statistics In 2024-25: 25.8 PPG, 6.7 RPG, 3.1 APG, 0.5 SPG, 1.5 BPG, 3.3 TOV, 53.6% FG, 44.9% 3-PT FG, 80.0% FT

Win-Loss Record: 12-11

Kevin Durant is still at the top of his game as one of the best and most unstoppable scoring talents in the game. Posting 25.9 points per game, the Phoenix Suns will only go as Durant takes them as he fits seamlessly alongside another elite offensive player in Devin Booker. We don't expect Durant to slow down anytime soon either.

The only thing standing in Durant's way is health and that has been the case for most of his career since leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Suns have had their struggles and are still not convincing enough to be legitimate title contenders, meaning Durant will often have to carry a heavy load.

Still, other than Giannis Antetokounmpo, there isn't a better forward in the game right now and that is a testament to Durant's greatness as a scorer and all-around athlete at 36 years old and counting.

3. Anthony Davis

Statistics In 2024-25: 27.5 PPG, 11.2 RPG, 3.5 APG, 1.3 SPG, 2.0 BPG, 2.0 TOV, 52.9% FG, 32.0% 3-PT FG, 79.8% FT

Win-Loss Record: 13-11

Anthony Davis is showing why he is one of the most skilled big men in the league, playing a pivotal role in the Los Angeles Lakers’ early season. Averaging over 27 points and 11 rebounds, Davis has dominated in the paint on both ends, providing the Lakers with an elite rim protector and a reliable scoring option.

His ability to shoot from mid-range and occasionally stretch out to the three-point line makes him one of the most versatile power forwards in the NBA. No doubt, Davis is in rare MVP form right now and many are looking at JJ Redick for getting him back to that spot.

Davis has shouldered a significant load for the Lakers, particularly during stretches when LeBron James manages his minutes. While durability always remains a concern for AD, his performances this year have been consistent and impactful. He has played with an edge on defense, ranking 6th in blocks per game, and his presence on the court elevates the Lakers’ chances against any opponent.

4. Domantas Sabonis

Statistics In 2024-25: 20.8 PPG, 12.7 RPG, 6.2 APG, 0.7 SPG, 0.4 BPG, 3.3 TOV, 62.2% FG, 42.9% 3-PT FG, 81.5% FT

Win-Loss Record: 12-13

Domantas Sabonis continues to be the engine of the Sacramento Kings, excelling as one of the best passing big men in the league. Averaging over six assists per game, Sabonis orchestrates the Kings’ offense from the high post, creating opportunities for his teammates with his court vision and pinpoint passing.

His efficiency around the rim and ability to grab double-digit rebounds nightly make him an invaluable piece for Sacramento. This season, Sabonis has further elevated his defensive impact, an area where he was often critiqued. While he isn’t a shot-blocker, his positioning and strength have allowed him to hold his own against the league’s top frontcourt players.

Paired with De’Aaron Fox and DeMar DeRozan, Sabonis hopes to help the Kings stay competitive in the crowded Western Conference, proving once again why he is among the league’s elite power forwards.

5. Evan Mobley

Statistics In 2024-25: 18.3 PPG, 9.1 RPG, 2.7 APG, 1.1 SPG, 1.5 BPG, 2.2 TOV, 55.8% FG, 40.0% 3-PT FG, 79.6% FT

Win-Loss Record: 21-4

Evan Mobley is evolving into one of the best big men in the NBA as he is starting to realize his elite potential. His scoring has taken a leap this season, as he has added a reliable three-point shot to his arsenal, making him a legitimate floor-spacer.

Defensively, Mobley remains a cornerstone for the Cleveland Cavaliers, using his length and agility to protect the rim and guard multiple positions. Cleveland’s strong start to the season is a testament to Mobley’s development.

Playing alongside Jarrett Allen, Mobley’s versatility has allowed the Cavs to deploy one of the most formidable frontcourts in the league. His ability to read the game and make plays on both ends is a major reason why Cleveland looks poised to be a contender in the East with the best record in the NBA.

6. Jalen Williams

Statistics In 2024-25: 22.0 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 5.0 APG, 2.1 SPG, 0.8 BPG, 2.1 TOV, 51.2% FG, 39.3% 3-PT FG, 80.2% FT

Win-Loss Record: 18-5

Jalen Williams has improved his game year after year and he is having the best season of his career with the Oklahoma City Thunder. His all-around game is on full display, with averages of 22.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 5.0 assists. Williams’ defensive instincts, evidenced by his 2.1 per game, make him a key piece on both ends of the court.

Williams' growth heavily influences the Thunder’s success this season, boasting one of the best records in the league. His ability to adapt to different roles within OKC’s dynamic roster shows his maturity and basketball IQ. Williams’ efficient shooting and versatility have made him a nightmare matchup for opposing teams, and his future looks incredibly bright.

7. Jaren Jackson Jr.

Statistics In 2024-25: 21.9 PPG, 5.8 RPG, 1.3 APG, 1.4 SPG, 1.9 BPG, 2.1 TOV, 51.7% FG, 35.0% 3-PT FG, 81.3% FT

Win-Loss Record: 17-8

Jaren Jackson Jr. is proving why he’s considered one of the premier defensive players in the NBA as a former DPOY winner. However, his offense has been arguably more impressive. His 21.9 points per game this season highlight his improved scoring arsenal, which includes a decent three-point shot and the ability to finish strong around the rim.

His defensive dominance is still his calling card, as Jackson’s shot-blocking instincts and lateral quickness make him a Defensive Player of the Year candidate yet again for the talented Grizzlies squad. With Ja Morant hoping to stay healthy, Jackson has been a steadying force, anchoring the defense while taking on more offensive responsibilities.

His consistency and leadership have kept Memphis in playoff contention, and his impact continues to elevate his status among the league’s elite power forwards and we hope there is more to come from the former All-Star.

8. Pascal Siakam

Statistics In 2024-25: 19.7 PPG, 6.6 RPG, 3.6 APG, 0.9 SPG, 0.2 BPG, 1.5 TOV, 52.5% FG, 41.1% 3-PT FG, 79.8% FT

Win-Loss Record: 10-15

Pascal Siakam continues to be one of the most versatile power forwards in the NBA, contributing as a scorer, rebounder, and playmaker for the Indiana Pacers. Siakam’s ability to create offense both in transition and the half-court has kept the Raptors competitive despite a fluctuating supporting cast.

This season, Siakam’s leadership has been evident as he takes on more responsibility in crucial moments. While Toronto’s record reflects some inconsistency, Siakam’s performance has not wavered. His ability to guard multiple positions adds immense value, solidifying his place among the top power forwards in the league.

9. Julius Randle

Statistics In 2024-25: 20.4 PPG, 7.0 RPG, 4.0 APG, 0.8 SPG, 0.1 BPG, 2.7 TOV, 48.9% FG, 36.7% 3-PT FG, 82.4% FT

Win-Loss Record: 12-11

Julius Randle's numbers have not dipped much despite being traded to the Timberwolves this summer. His ability to stretch the floor with his improved three-point shooting has opened up opportunities for his teammates, making the team’s offense dynamic as they have moved on from Karl-Anthony Towns. Despite his scoring prowess, Randle also contributes as a playmaker, averaging four assists per game and thriving in pick-and-roll situations.

This season, Randle has displayed a more disciplined approach to his shot selection, leading to increased efficiency from the field. While his defensive impact can still improve, his offensive consistency has helped Anthony Edwards enough to remain competitive while they sort out their chemistry problems.

10. Lauri Markkanen

Statistics In 2024-25: 18.6 PPG, 6.3 RPG, 2.3 APG, 0.7 SPG, 0.1 BPG, 1.4 TOV, 44.3% FG, 37.2% 3-PT FG, 86.0% FT

Win-Loss Record: 5-18

Lauri Markkanen has built on his breakout campaign in 2022-23, emerging as one of the most potent scoring forwards in the league for the past three seasons. His ability to score efficiently at all three levels makes him a matchup nightmare for opposing defenders. Markkanen’s points per game average is down because of how poor the Utah Jazz have been on offense.

Still, what makes Markkanen special is his ability to blend size with skill. At 7 feet tall, he spaces the floor with his excellent three-point shooting while also using his improved strength to finish inside. While Utah remains a middling team, Markkanen’s continued rise points to a bright future as one of the league’s best natural power forwards.
