At least one big-name team is hoping for the end of Nikola Jokic’s window in Denver.

The Golden State Warriors are eyeing the Denver Nuggets superstar center Jokic for a potential pursuit in the summer of 2027, Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer reported Thursday. Fischer adds that the Warriors believe that they are still a destination for big-name targets with their selling points of Steph Curry and potential max cap space.

Jokic, the three-time NBA MVP is off to a fairly sluggish start to the 2026-27 season. He holds pedestrian (by his lofty standards) averages of 23.4 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 9.3 assists per game as the Nuggets have posted a flat record of 4-3.

Meanwhile, Jokic can become an unrestricted free agent as soon as next summer. If he turns down his $62.8 million player option for the 2027-28 NBA season, Jokic will be free to sign with any team in a matter of months.

The Warriors should also be in a very competitive situation financially next summer. After this season, Golden State will have over $100 million coming off the books when the contracts of Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green, and Kristaps Porzingis expire (Porzingis does technically hold a player option but only with a very small partial guarantee of $3 million).

Outwardly, Jokic continues to emphasize his commitment towards remaining in Denver. But until the Serbian center finally puts pen to paper on a new extension, plenty of other vultures will be circling (including this big-time rival of the Warriors).
