2026 NBA G League Draft Results

The NBA G League held its draft for the 2026/27 season on Saturday afternoon. Players who signed NBAGL contracts and whose rights weren’t already controlled by a team were part of the draft pool.

The Texas Legends, the Mavericks’ affiliate team, held the No. 1 overall pick in Saturday’s draft and used it to select former NBA lottery pick Jeremy Sochan.

According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype (Twitter link), Sochan plans to join the Legends this fall in an effort to make his way back to the NBA. The 23-year-old forward was waived by Portland last week after spending training camp and the preseason on an Exhibit 9 contract with the Trail Blazers.

Drafting Sochan to Texas won’t prevent another NBA team from poaching him, since holding a player’s G League rights doesn’t mean you control his NBA rights. But it will give the Mavericks a chance to take a first-hand look at him before determining whether they want to sign him to a standard contract — Sochan is no longer eligible for a two-way deal since he has four years of NBA service.

Sochan was the ninth overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft and spent his first three-and-a-half years with the Spurs. The 6’8″ forward averaged at least 11 points per game in each of his first three seasons as San Antonio experimented with his role, deploying him for stretches as a point guard or a small-ball center.

However, Sochan fell out of the regular rotation during his fourth year in 2025/26 and was granted his release after the trade deadline, allowing him to sign with the Knicks. He didn’t play much in New York either, averaging just 6.9 minutes per game in 16 regular season appearances and 3.3 MPG in eight postseason outings, but he won his first NBA championship when his new team beat his old team in the NBA Finals.

In 228 total regular season games, Sochan has averaged 9.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per contest, with a shooting line of .470/.286/.725.

As Blake Murphy of Sportsnet.ca tweets, the top pick changed hands four times leading up to the draft and there were a total of 77 trades involving the 31 first-round selections heading into Saturday.
