The Atlanta Hawks had another disappointing season last year as they were eliminated in the Play-In Tournament for the second consecutive season.
Because of this, Atlanta elected to make some major moves this offseason as they acquired Kristaps Porzingis from the Boston Celtics and signed Luke Kennard and Nickeil Alexander-Walker in free agency.
For the Hawks, they will now enter the 2025-26 season looking to compete for a top seed in the Eastern Conference with their revamped roster led by their core of Trae Young, Dyson Daniels, Zaccharie Risacher, Jalen Johnson and Porzingis.
While the Hawks are expected to be one of the top teams in the East this season, they could also elect to make some moves ahead of the deadline and these three players could be potential trade candidates.
For Young, he in entering the final year of his contract in Atlanta due to him having a player option next summer and the Hawks have yet to offer him a contract extension.
This is a surprise move by Atlanta as Young has been a superstar player for them over his career and if the two sides are unable to agree on a new deal, Atlanta could look to move him.
Of course, it is highly unlikely that the Hawks trade Young as he has been in trade rumors over the last handful of seasons, though that could change do to him needing a new contract and if they do move him, they could receive a large trade package in return.
Atlanta selected Kobe Bufkin 15th overall in the 2023 draft but he has not seen much playing time over his first two seasons in the NBA.
The 21-year-old guard has played in only 27 games over his first two seasons and with the Hawks’ additions of Alexander-Walker and Kennard this summer, he may be in for another similar role this season.
If that is the case, Atlanta may be willing to listen to offers for the young guard and he should generate some interest from other teams around the NBA.
Onyeka Okongwu played a large role for the Hawks last season as he moved past Clint Capela into the starting lineup which led to him posting the best season of his career thus far.
Despite this, Okongwu will likely return to the bench this season with Atlanta acquiring Porzingis this summer, which will cut into his minutes.
Because of this, the 24-year-old center may generate some trade interest from other contenders around the NBA and if the Hawks receive the right offer, it would not be a surprise to see them move on from Okongwu this season.
While the Hawks could move all of these players, it is likely that they will keep most of their core together this season as they are expected to be one of the top teams in the East as they try to make a run at a championship.
