After reaching the NBA Finals in 2024, the Dallas Mavericks missed the playoffs last season after finishing 10th in the Western Conference standings.
Of course, the main headline for Dallas from last season was the shocking trade they made with the Los Angeles Lakers that saw them acquire Anthony Davis in exchange for Luka Doncic.
This was a shocking move by the Mavericks and one that was not very popular amongst their fans.
Despite this, Dallas has built a solid core entering the new season with Davis, Klay Thompson and Cooper Flagg leading the way while Kyrie Irving is expected to return at some point after suffering a torn ACL last season.
With this core, the Mavericks are expected to be a top team in the West this season if they can stay healthy, though they could look to make moves ahead of the trade deadline to bolster their roster.
If that is the case, these three players could be potential trade targets for them.
With LeBron James entering the final year of his contract with the Lakers, there were rumors this offseason about the Mavericks potentially showing interest in acquiring him and reuniting him with both Davis and Irving.
Despite this, Los Angeles has shown no interest in moving the future Hall of Fame forward, though that could change ahead of the deadline.
If that ends up being the case, Dallas could show interest in acquiring him to help them try and make a run at a championship this season.
Dallas has quite a bit of forward depth on their roster but with them dealing with a ton of injuries last season, the more depth the better.
Because of this, they could target Indiana Pacers forward Obi Toppin this season as the Pacers could look to move him with them being without Tyrese Haliburton this season, basically ending their title hopes.
Toppin would give them another athletic forward who is a reliable scorer and solid defender who could be a solid fit for them off the bench.
While the Mavericks do have an abundance of guard depth, they could look to add another veteran to the mix in T.J. McConnell who is one of the best backup point guards in the NBA.
McConnell played a key role in the Pacers’ run to the NBA Finals last season off the bench and he could have a key role in Dallas, especially with Irving set to miss time due to injury.
Despite this, Indiana may elect to keep the veteran guard this season but if they do choose to move him, Dallas could be among many teams who show interest.
While the Mavericks could target these three players, they could also look elsewhere to upgrade their roster to try and chase a championship this season.
