4-Team Mock Trade Has Warriors Acquiring Pelicans' $112 Million Forward, Sending Jonathan Kuminga to Suns

The Golden State Warriors entered the NBA offseason looking to upgrade their roster around their star trio of Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green as they try to win another championship this season.

Instead, the Warriors have been in an ongoing saga with Jonathan Kuminga which has cost them multiple free agent targets and they have yet to make any moves outside of the 2025 draft.

Despite this, it has been reported that Golden State does have deals in place with multiple free agents that are expected to be finalized after Kuminga’s situation is resolved.

For the Warriors, they have been linked to many players this offseason including New Orleans Pelicans young forward Trey Murphy III.

Warriors predicted to land Trey Murphy III from Pelicans

FanSided’s Peter O’Keefe recently released a four-team mock trade that would see the Warriors land Murphy III from New Orleans while also moving Kuminga to a new team.

In the trade, the Warriors would acquire Murphy III from the Pelicans while sending Jonathan Kuminga to the Phoenix Suns.

Golden State would also send Moses Moody and three first-round picks to New Orleans while the Suns would send Nick Ricahrds to the Pelicans and Grayson Allen and a first and second-round pick to the Brooklyn Nets.

Brooklyn would also acquire a second-round pick from New Orleans in exchange for Haywood Highsmith.

This is an interesting trade for every team involved, especially the Warriors as they would trade away one of their key young forwards and land another from the Pelicans.

For Golden State, trading away Kuminga in order to land Murphy III would be a solid move for them to make as Murphy III has showed flashes of being a star during his career in New Orleans.

Last season, the 25-year-old forward averaged 21.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 45.4% from the field and 36.1% from three.

Murphy III would also be a much better fit alongside Curry, Butler and Green in the starting lineup compared to Kuminga as he excels off the ball while Kuminga needs the ball in his hands to be effective on the offensive end and he is also a much better defender.

Of course, it would be a difficult decision for the Warriors to also move Moody in this deal as he has become a key part of their rotation.

Despite this, swapping Moody, Kuminga and multiple first-round picks for Murphy III could propel the Warriors into being a title contender once again this season.
