Injuries have been one of the biggest issues in Joel Embiid's career. Last season, the Philadelphia 76ers center struggled the most with his body as he was limited to just 19 games. His knee issues continued to be a problem, and they affected his availability.
This offseason, the 76ers want him to maximize his time and take care of his body. His season was cut short earlier than expected due to his injuries. Until now, Embiid has still been dealing with the issues. Due to that, there's genuine concern from Philly's front office regarding his ability to stay healthy.
Recently, 76ers head coach Nick Nurse was interviewed by Brian T. Smith of talkSport.com. During their exchange, Nurse said that he isn't sure if Embiid will be ready for training camp.
“I’m not sure,” Nurse said.
Despite not knowing when his star player will return to action, Nurse still gave positive feedback. According to the one-time NBA champion, Embiid is working hard to make sure he'll be with the team and be healthy.
"Again, all the news is positive," he added. "I know he’s working very, very hard and I think things look good. Whether he’s ready for training camp or not, I think there’s maybe a lot more decisions than that to make before we get there.
“But our main thing is that he’s healthy to play and play to his nearest capabilities, because he’s awesome, no doubt about that.”
Even though he's dealt with various injuries, the 76ers believe that Embiid is still the foundation of their team. They look to lean on him next season to try and contend for the NBA championship.
