Some sneakers have to be seen in person to be fully appreciated. The Air Jordan 5 'Wolf Grey' which released earlier in the year is a good example. That said, the Air Jordan 5 'Burgundy' is a lot like the Wolf Grey. It's obviously the same silhouette, but the materials are also similar. When I looked at it recently (which is why I'm writing about it now), I realized this sneaker looks like the Wolf Grey dipped in red wine. Let's talk sneakers.

Where Can You Buy the AJ5 Burgundy?

StockX is a great spot and the prices are reasonable. You should be able to find your size under $300. The Burgundy released in October 2023 at $200 and is resale only with no retro scheduled.

The Air Jordan 5 'Oreo' is another premium non-OG AJ5 on the resale market if you want to compare options.

How Does It Compare to the Wolf Grey?

The materials are nearly identical. Both use premium suede on the upper with nubuck overlays and a translucent outsole. The Burgundy takes that same foundation and coats it in a deep wine tone that transforms the entire feel of the shoe.

The Air Jordan 5 'Sunset' is another AJ5 where the colorway does the heavy lifting on a proven material template.

What Makes the Burgundy a Cult Favorite?

This was one of the first Jordan retros to move away from the traditional Chicago Bulls colors, and it gets respect for its willingness to step outside the box. The burgundy tone on premium suede reads as sophisticated rather than loud.

The Air Jordan 5 'University Blue' broke similar ground on the AJ5 with a non-traditional color that built its own following.

Should You Buy the AJ5 Burgundy?

If you have a need or desire for a burgundy sneaker, it's hard to imagine not taking a serious look at this one. Under $300 for premium suede on an AJ5 is strong value.

The Air Jordan 5 'White Metallic' is the safe OG choice dropping in 2026, but the Burgundy offers something the Metallic never could: personality.
