A.J. Lawson Signs With Spanish Club Baskonia

A.J. Lawson, who played in the Raptors’ organization last season, is headed to Spain to continue his career.

Lawson has signed a two-year contract with Kosner Baskonia, according to EuroLeagueBasketball.net.

Lawson spent the last two seasons with the Raptors. He was on a two-way deal until he was promoted to a standard contract near the end of the season.

A 6’5″ guard/forward, Lawson came off the bench in 24 NBA games in his second season with the Raptors, averaging 4.2 points and 1.8 rebounds in 9.4 minutes per contest while shooting 42.2% from three-point range. Lawson received court time in all seven of their first-round playoff games against Cleveland, averaging 1.7 points in 7.3 minutes. That included a six-point outing in 10 minutes during Toronto’s Game 6 overtime win, which forced a decisive Game 7.

He also spent extended time in the G League with the Raptors 905, averaging 21.6 PPG, 4.8 RPG, 2.3 APG and 1.4 SPG on .465/.360/.792 shooting in 36 games (31.9 MPG).

Lawson, a Toronto native who went undrafted in 2021 out of South Carolina, previously spent time with Minnesota and Dallas. The 26-year-old was also promoted from a two-way deal to a standard contract in his first season with the Raptors. He was then waived in mid-October, but re-signed with his hometown team two days later on a new two-way agreement.
