Highlights
The Golden State Warriors are sticking with their core group of players. That means they are doubling down on maximizing Stephen Curry's championship window, so older players have bigger roles on the roster.
Draymond Green, Jimmy Butler, and now, Al Horford are on the roster. They will play significant roles for the team, but they need a supporting cast. Most of the role players are younger, so they are learning on the job from their veteran teammates.
Post had an impressive rookie season during the 2024-25 campaign. In 42 games, he averaged 8.2 points and 3.5 rebounds per game for the Warriors. Now that Kevon Looney left the team, he and Horford will be the primary rotation at center.
Since they have been working hard together, Horford has been impressed with his younger teammate. The incoming sophomore has worked hard, and he will want to showcase his improvements off the bench for head coach Steve Kerr.
Since he entered the league in 2007, Horford has been the league's most experienced big man. With that kind of experience, he has played with and against all categories of big men.
It will be hard to impress him, but Post has done well to make Horford aware of him. Now, the former All-Star has been raving about Post and his work during the offseason and training camp.
This is a good sign for the Warriors because they want a big rotation they can trust. With Horford being the primary starter, Post will be his backup. Knowing that they constantly work together proves that they can cover for each other during games.
"A very high-IQ type player. Really understands how to play, and he can really shoot the ball. I think he's in the process of finding his footing in the league. Being part of this team and group, he understands what he has to do," Horford said after practice.
"Since I've been here in the Bay Area, every time I've come in, I've seen him work. He's always working, whether that's in the weight room or on the court. He's consistent with his work. He has the right tools to be successful because he listens, he works hard, and you can already see some flashes on the floor with him."
Coach Kerr might run a starting lineup of Curry, Buddy Hield, Butler, Green, and Horford. All those players combine for an average age of around 36, which is one of the most intriguing parts of the Warriors' roster.
They have younger players on the roster like Post, Moses Moody, and Jonathan Kuminga, but they are sticking to their guns by focusing on veterans. Curry is the primary option for good reason, as he is still a top player.

However, Butler will still be productive, considering his game does not require much athleticism. The rest of the starting lineup can thrive with their current setup, but the rest of the team must be prepared to play heavy minutes when the starters need to rest.
Post will be that player for Horford, and thankfully for Warriors fans, the centers have a good relationship. The rest of the team will be crucial as they look to keep competing in a stacked Western Conference.
