Alex Caruso notes that the latest toe injury has no structural damage and that he is eager to return to the Bulls' lineup
USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bulls might be in a good mood considering their first back-to-back wins this season, but they remain worried and hoping for the best in Alex Caruso's condition.

Caruso left prematurely in the team's Saturday victory against the New Orleans Pelicans, wherein he reportedly sustained a left toe injury. This is truly concerning since the veteran has already missed two straight games from the previous month as he nursed a strain on the said toe that he's been currently dealing with.

Injury regained

In his media availability on Monday, Caruso revealed the sequence wherein he sustained the injury against the Pels and the origin of his toe issues this year.

Caruso felt relieved that he seized an ample three-day rest to recover his toe, as he is pretty much looking forward to making his return on Wednesday against the Charlotte Hornets.

“I got a good day’s rest yesterday,” he said. “The other day, it's the same big toe thing that I've been dealing for a while now. It happened in practice probably at the beginning of November and then we've just managing it. And then one of the days, I think Julian [Philips] got the dunk on the fast break, then [Jose Alvarado] tripped and just kicked my foot and it kind just flared up and didn't go away.”

A sigh of relief

The good news is there is no structural damage that was scanned in Caruso's toe. The 29-year-old dismissed the anxiety around the team as he just noted that he needs proper rest to be able to regain his normal availability.

His update can't be more relieving since the Bulls will continue to rely on his defense and energy with Zach LaVine out. Moreover, they have a perfect chance to extend their winning streak to three against the Hornets with him potentially back in the lineup.

“They've taken all the images and scans and there's nothing structurally wrong with it. Nothing to raise too much concern. It's just going to be about giving it proper rest when we can, like these three days that we have time to rest it and then managing symptoms when it comes up.”
