Carmelo Anthony has joined the fight against racial injustice and police brutality.
The 10-time NBA All-Star released a limited edition "STAYME7O" apparel line with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. The new line consists of a T-shirt, hoodie and a candle.
The Portland Trail Blazers forward has been very vocal on social media about the death of George Floyd and even criticized President Trump's handling of protests going on across the country.
Anthony's merchandise drop comes after Floyd, an African-American man, died while in Minneapolis police custody on May 25. The 46-year-old Floyd was pinned to the ground by officer Derek Chauvin, who knelt on Floyd's neck, inhibiting him from breathing. The incident was caught on a phone video by a witness.
As Floyd pleaded for his life — even telling officer Chauvin multiple times he couldn't breathe — Chauvin refused to move off his neck.
Floyd was later pronounced dead at the hospital, and Chauvin was arrested on charges of third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. On June 3, Chauvin's charge was upgraded to second-degree murder, and three other now-former officers who were on the scene are also facing charges.
Anthony's fellow NBA stars also have been highly involved in the fight against racism. Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown drove 15 hours to Atlanta to lead a peaceful protest alongside Indiana Pacers guard Malcolm Brogdon, the Lakers' LeBron James has been very vocal in the fight against racism on social media, and NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar penned an emotional op-ed for the Los Angeles Times.
