Watch: Joel Embiid sets career-high with first 70-point game in 76ers history

Joel Embiid had a game for the ages on Monday night.

The reigning NBA MVP set a new career-high and made Sixers franchise history with 70 points in Philadelphia's 133-123 win over San Antonio.

The legendary Wilt Chamberlain previously held the Sixers' record for most points in a game with 68. Embiid broke the record with a layup with 1:41 remaining.

He only needed three quarters to match his previous career-high of 59 points. Embiid knocked down a three late in the period to put an exclamation point on a dominant quarter in his first game against Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs' generational No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

But it was Embiid who played like a once-in-a-generation talent on Monday. He also added 18 rebounds and five assists, including this nifty one in the third quarter to Kelly Oubre Jr.

It wasn't as though Wembanyama had a bad game, either. He finished with 33 points on 10-of-19 shooting, his fourth 30-point game of the season.

However, that was a footnote to Embiid's historic outing, which came on the 18th anniversary of Kobe Bryant's 81-point game against the Raptors in 2006.
