Former Golden State Warriors star Andre Iguodala had a cheeky way of improving.
Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant dominated the NBA during the prime of his career. However, Kobe’s greatness can never be measured with just accolades.
Sure, he won five NBA Championships with the Lakers. But the Mamba’s true legacy can be felt when current and former NBA players share amazing stories about him.
Be it LeBron James crediting Bryant for leading Team USA in 2008 or former Golden State Warriors star Andre Iguodala admitting that he used to steal things from the Lakers legend.
Before becoming the general manager of the Lakers, Rob Pelinka was primarily known as Bryant’s agent. He also managed Iguodala during his NBA career.
While Kobe was undoubtedly better than Iguodala, the former Dubs star used Pelinka to improve his game.
“I had the same agent as Kobe Bryant, so I was always stealing tips. I had somebody watching Kobe, stealing things, writing things down, giving it to me,” Iguodala said on The Young Man and Three podcast.
He added: “Kobe would dribble on the wall with his left hand at one angle for 20 minutes, then change the angle for another 20 minutes, and so on, so forth. So I would steal that.”
To be fair, Bryant’s work ethic was arguably the biggest quality that helped him dominate in the NBA for 20 years. Iguodala played it smart by getting backend access to Kobe’s workout routine.
The likes of Bryant, LeBron James, and Michael Jordan are some of the most gifted players to ever grace the hardwood in NBA history.
Of course, they combined their talent with incredible hard work. It’s impossible to match even a fraction of their greatness without using a smart strategy, and Iguodala did just that.
“I was always trying to identify who was the best at any particular thing. And then I would just try to implement that into my regimen and my schedule,” Iguodala admitted.
At the end of the day, Iggy’s strategy worked as he retired as a 4x NBA champion and also won the 2015 NBA Finals MVP.
