Andrew Wiggins doesn't hold a lot of trade value for the Golden State Warriors

The Golden State Warriors are 12th in the Western Conference. They've lost 21 of their 39 games this season. Their championship-winning core is all aging. There is also a disconnect in the team's roster construction, with multiple blue-chip prospects slowly emerging on the bench. As such, the Warriors are widely expected to pursue a trade before the February 8 deadline.

Andrew Wiggins is among the prime candidates to be offered out by Golden State. The veteran wing hasn't reached his usual level this season and is struggling on both sides of the floor. Because of this, according to Marc J Spears, who was speaking on a recent episode of ESPN's "NBA Today," the consensus around the league is that Wiggins doesn't hold much trade value.

Wiggins, I was told by a GM, there’s not a value for Wiggins right now,” Spears said. h/t to Jackson Stone of Clutch Points for the transcription.
Wiggins was instrumental in the Warriors run to the 2022 NBA championship. His point-of-attack defense was a launching pad for Golden State's offense, and his athleticism ensured they could create scoring opportunities around the rim in half-court settings. Yet, for whatever reason, that's not the version of Wiggins we're seeing right now.

Perhaps a change of scenery would be good for the Canadian standout. It could provide him with the opportunity of a fresh start while also landing the Warriors some valuable additions in a trade. However, when you're playing so far below your usual level, it hurts your trade value. Opposing teams begin to wonder if you're working through a slump or if decline has started to set into your play.

The hard part is you can never tell. Sometimes, a player bounces back from these sorts of struggles. Others spend the rest of their career trying to get back to their best. At 28 years old, Wiggins is in the early stage of his prime. There is every reason to believe he can recapture his All-Star-level production. The Warriors don't have time to wait around for that to happen, though. Steph Curry's championship window is finite. They want to compete for a championship every season Curry is still active on their roster.

It's hard to envision Wiggins not having a trade market. He's talented enough to be a core part of a team's primary rotation. However, it may be that he is the type of player you bring in during the summer and get a full training camp to assess. As such, Golden State may have to look at other potential trade packages while they wait for a market to develop for their championship-winning wing.
