Announcer defends himself from possible critiques of Steeve Ho You Fat pronunciation: 'That is that man's name'

Steeve Ho You Fat is the actual name of a french basketball player for the Boulogne-Levallois Metropolitans 92. Americans, and the internet as a whole, were introduced to Ho You Fat on Tuesday when his teammate, potential No. 1 overall pick Victor Wembanyama, drew the attention of the hoops world during a scrimmage against the G League Ignite.

Wembanyama was the main draw of the game. He's a 7-foot-2 18-year-old with an elite wing span, touch around the rim, and a three-pointer that would make most shooting guards jealous.

Wembanyama is potentially the greatest prospect of all time. He and Scoot Henderson from the Ignite are largely expected to be the top two picks in this year's NBA draft, and they both put on a show in the scrimmage.

The French sensation scored 37 points on 11-of-20 shooting from the field with five blocks. Henderson scored 28 on 11-of-21 shooting.

It was quite the showcase for NBA Draft nerds, but it was Ho You Fat, and rather, the game announcer's reaction to his last name, that ended up going viral.

See for yourself below.

Ho You Fat was born in Cayenne, French Guiana and he's been a professional basketball player in France since 2008.

He's likely gone through most of his life either not knowing or not caring that his last name sounds like an insult to Americanized ears, but he did take his viral moment in stride.

"Looks like they really want that jersey," he wrote on his Instagram, per Fox News.
