Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis had a night to forget in the Dallas Mavericks opening loss.

Even though he scored a team-high 22 points, Anthony Davis was totally overshadowed by the towering presence of Victor Wembanyama.

French sensation Wembanyama scored 40 points, and looked at a loss at how to defend the San Antonio Spurs star.

NBA fans were left astounded after never seeing Davis look the way he did, completely dominated by the new look Wembanyama.

Anthony Davis speaks out

Anthony Davis has now spoken out about having to face Victor Wembanyama, and admits there is not a lot that can be done to defend the giant.

Davis was quoted via beat writer Mike Curtis: “When he’s 7-3 and he stands in front of you, nobody’s gonna block his shot and he’s shooting over the top.

“At that point, you just pray he misses. I think he got us in foul trouble.

“All the bigs on the team. That takes away the aggressiveness on how you play defensively.”

Wembanyama set a franchise record for the Spurs, for the most points in an opening game.

And while it is too early to get carried away, if he continues to play like this, he could be in contention for the MVP.

The good news for Anthony Davis is that the Mavericks face the Washington Wizards next.

And they don’t have to face the Spurs again until late February.
