Anthony Davis made his debut for the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday after he was shockingly acquired from the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Luka Doncic, but he ended up being forced out of the game early with an adductor injury. On Tuesday morning, ESPN's Brian Windhorst dropped a worrying update on his ailment.
While the Mavs received a lot of grief for pulling off this trade, Davis looked phenomenal in his debut, scoring 26 points, hauling in 16 rebounds, and dishing out seven assists. However, reports surfaced on Sunday that suggested the superstar big man would be forced to miss several weeks due to this injury.
"Dallas Mavericks star power forward/center Anthony Davis is expected to sit out multiple weeks because of a left adductor strain, sources told ESPN on Sunday night. His absence could stretch to a month, sources said, because of an injury that cut short his spectacular debut with his new franchise," Shams Charania and Tim MacMahon of ESPN reported.
Davis' injury status is pretty murky, which isn't great considering Dallas just gave up a ton to get him, and their frontcourt rotation is already battered with injuries. According to Windhorst, how Davis and the Mavericks have handled this injury implies that it is not a minor one, which is precisely what the team and their fans don't want to hear.
"They've spent the last couple of days getting consultations and opinions on how to treat this injury," Windhorst said on "Get Up." "I'm not going to speculate, but obviously when you get the MRI and then you start calling a bunch of doctors, it doesn't imply that it's minor."

Losing Davis to an injury, let alone one that could hold him out for over a month, is pretty much the worst case scenario for a Mavericks team that, with a 28-26 record, is fighting to stay in the playoff hunt in the Western Conference.
A more definitive timeline could emerge soon, but for now, it looks like Dallas is going to have to find a way to stay afloat with their new superstar after his latest injury.
