The Dallas Mavericks lost Anthony Davis again to injury in their 126-116 loss to the Golden State Warriors on Christmas Day. The 10-time All-Star was forced to exit in the second quarter due to a groin issue and was unable to return. He finished with three points on 1-of-4 shooting, three rebounds, two blocks and a steal in 11 minutes of action.
The Mavs dropped to 12-20 after the Warriors loss, which marked their third defeat in the last four games. As of writing, they are 11th in the Western Conference, and missing Davis for another extended period could spell trouble for this squad.
News surfaced on Friday that Davis is now expected to “miss a few games.” Senior NBA reporter Shams Charania revealed that the 6-foot-10 big man has sustained a minor groin strain and will be sidelined for an unknown period because of this latest injury. Charania also reported that Davis will be evaluated on a daily basis.
The Mavs have now made an announcement on their superstar big man. Dallas released its injury report for Saturday’s game against the Sacramento Kings, and, as expected, Davis has been listed with right adductor soreness. The Mavs announced, however, that Davis is officially questionable to play. The team has not ruled him out entirely, and it appears that the 32-year-old still has a chance to play against Sacramento.
Dallas should have further updates on Davis’ status for the Kings game, and they will likely make their final decision closer to tip-off. However, considering how cautious they have been on the health of the oft-injured big man, it would not be a surprise if he sits out against Sacramento, and perhaps beyond.
It is important to note that Davis missed 14 games earlier this season due to a left calf strain. He returned on Nov. 28 and has since played in 11 out of the Mavs’ last 13 games.
In 16 appearances this season, the NBA champion forward has averaged 20.5 points on 52.1% shooting, 10.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.6 blocks in 29.9 minutes per contest.
