Anthony Edwards' confidence is on another level ahead of Olympics

Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards has quickly become one of the NBA’s most exciting players since being drafted No. 1 overall in 2020. Edwards is also building a reputation for being a trash talker and the most confident player on the court.

Edwards’ high confidence level was on full display during this year’s playoffs when he went toe to toe with Kevin Durant. Not only did Edwards show that he’d arrived as one of the best in the league, but he also talked trash to Durant and backed it up.

The T-Wolves swept the Suns, led by Edwards’ 31 PPG in the series. Edwards is taking that same attitude into international play with Team USA.

“I’m still the number one option…I mean, y’all might look at it differently. I don’t look at it no different. You know, they got to fit in and play around me. That’s how I feel,” said Edwards, via Ben Golliver of the Washington Post.

Recently, Edwards has been compared to Michael Jordan. That’s a lot to put on any player, let alone a 22-year-old kid. Although Edwards put an end to the Jordan talk, there are parts of his game and personality that have sparked such comparisons.

While Edwards’ confidence may be considered brash and arrogant by some, he’s exactly what Minnesota and other teams are looking for in a star or future superstar. No fear and a willingness to take it to anyone and compete to be the best, even with teammates.

Like it or not, that was a key trait of Jordan when he played. His desire to be the best no matter who he played with or against. No, Edwards isn’t Jordan, but he’s gaining a reputation for talking smack while proving himself against the best the NBA has to offer. If Edwards continues this route the Jordan talk will only get louder no matter how much he protests.
