Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards went down with a gruesome leg injury during Saturday’s first-round series Game 4 against the Denver Nuggets.

Edwards jumped high in the air to contest a layup from Nuggets swingman Cam Johnson with under three minutes remaining at Target Center in Minneapolis, Minn. The All-Star guard appeared to hyperextend his left knee with force, leaving him in serious pain.

Here’s a slow-motion replay of the incident.

Edwards had to be assisted by two trainers on his way back to the locker room. He could not put any weight on the injured left leg.

Edwards had already been dealing with a knee injury entering the series against the Nuggets. He left Saturday’s game with five points on 1/8 shooting.

It was a brutal first half for the Timberwolves’ health, losing both members of their starting backcourt to seemingly serious injuries. Shooting guard Donte DiVincenzo went down with a non-contact injury in the opening minutes of Game 4.

Minnesota appeared to be firmly in the driver’s seat in the series after a dominant blowout win over Denver in Game 3. But their fortunes turned in an instant with injuries to two key players.
