NBA Executive Vice President and Head of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars announced that Anthony Edwards was being fined $100,000 for using foul language during a post-game interview this past week. The statement put out by the NBA's PR office noted that this amount was based on Edwards' previous history of using foul language in public channels.

The interview in question came on December 27th, 2024, after Edwards hit an incredible buzzer-beater against the Houston Rockets. After the game, Edwards had a profanity-ridden celebratory comment, which was relayed as part of a post-game press conference.

"All I knew was, the play was for Ju to go 14... Once he picked it up, sh*t, who else? I gotta go get it. Sh*t... Sh*t, I'm going for the win. Like Gilbert Arenas said, I don't do overtime, so f**k it!"

The NBA has truly begun to crack down on the use of profane language on television. LaMelo Ball was fined for his use of homophobic language just a few weeks ago. And now, they are cracking down on another superstar from the 2020 NBA Draft class, not making any exception for Anthony Edwards.

As far as the history that they are referencing with Edwards, it is true that the Timberwolves star has a tendency to use foul language quite often. And even though most of his barbs have been caught by microphones nearby, he has slipped up in previous interviews, continuously dropping some unsavory words during interviews.

With that previous behavior going relatively unchecked, the NBA felt that they needed to address the comments from Edwards and try to make an example out of him. Perhaps more NBA stars will be fined should they not be able to watch their language while speaking on television.
